My interest in family histories began around the turn of the century. I found a hand-drawn family tree sent to my father by a distant cousin he had never met. The tree was massive, several oversized pages folded into a large envelope. The package, dated 40 years earlier, was completely forgotten. When I was unable to find our cousin’s research anywhere on the Internet, I decided to create an online family tree and add the information myself.

This impulse started what will be a lifetime journey, curating family collections and archiving the contents to create modern family repositories.

Most of us have our family treasures in various states of organization. When I started working on my own family archive, I discovered my family’s previous system was piles of stuff thrown into an old cabinet.
